Formula 100 Karting Series Round #2; Battle in the Desert!

The beautiful Willow Springs Kart Track hosted Round #2 of The Formula 100 Karting Series 2013 season. Another excellent group of racers showed up early Saturday morning to battle the heat of the desert and their opponents on track. The brave racers who made the trek were incredibly well prepared for the task at hand, as fast lap times were recorded in each class. Compared to the lap times in the 2012 F100 Willow Springs event, the 2013 lap times were almost a full second faster, showing the progress in both driving and tuning skill that comes with the seat time that racers get when racing with F100.

The Formula 100 Karting Series Adds Cadet and Junior Classes; Revamps Sportsman Class

The Formula 100 Karting Series has recently added four new classes to its class lineup for the rest of the 2013 season, beginning at Round #2 on May 11th at Willow Springs Kart Track in Rosamond, CA. 

F100 Cadet, Cadet Novice, Junior and Junior Novice have been added to the class lineup to provide a place to race for drivers aged 8 to 15. The inclusion of young racers in the F100 Series will allow for a more family oriented atmosphere, as now racers of all ages will be able to enjoy the fun, competitive and cost effective racing that F100 is known for. The new classes will follow the traditional F100 Licensing Ladder System, which allows for maximum competition and fun, while helping to provide the best venue for drivers to develop their racing skills.

2013 Formula 100 Karting Series Round #1

Entering its second season of existence, The Formula 100 Karting Series was poised to make a grand entrance onto the 2013 Southern California kart scene. A cloudy and overcast day at Apex Kart Track in Perris, CA made for a nice contrast to the hot and exciting action on the track during Round #1 of the F100 2013 Season. A record number of racers arrived at the famed facility to do battle for spots atop the podium. With stacked classes at all levels, the action on track was intense and exciting, as F100 continued to live up to its billing as an affordable, fast, fun and competitive kart racing series for racers of all ages and skill levels.

Formula 100 Karting Series 2013 Round 1 Hits Socal April 14th

The Formula 100 Karting Series is set to begin their 2013 Season on Sunday, April 14th at Apex Kart Track in Perris, CA. After a succesful 2012 season and 2013 preseason warmup race, F100 expects a record turnout for the first official points race of the young 2013 season. Racers have been diligently preparing for the upcoming season, logging many practice laps at the Perris, CA track in anticipation of the start of the season. Series stalwarts, such as Steve Muehler, Ivan and Gregorio Urueta, John Shepherd, David Schall, Jean Michel Crettaz, Bryan Bender, Alex Bacon, Stu Hayner, James Hayner, Tom Ricketts, Kyle Hayner, Kalvin Chen, Tom Denker and Jeremy Specht will prepare for battle in their respective classes as they welcome a drove newcomers including Bryan Walters, Logan Manus, Brad Richardson and many more. As always, the racing on track will be exciting, intense and hotly contested. The Formula 100 Karting Series Season Opener is surely must see racing! Think 100cc karts aren't fast enough? Think again! This is footage from the 1999 Formula Super A World Championship race. The field includes David Fore, Danilo Rossi (now of DR Kart), Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen. Some great racing action. Check it out!

1986 100cc Reed and Rotary Karts at Oxnard

This is a cool video from 1986 showing the old Oxnard kart track and 100cc reed and rotary karts ripping around on it. 

Internet research indicates that the Oxnard Kart track was most recently occupied by Jim Hall Kart Racing School, but was closed in 2004 when the area was returned to wetlands. Jim Hall would move to what appeared to be a copy, at least in some ways, of the old Oxnard facility, but that too was closed recently. Quite a shame to lose so many nice tracks. The Oxnard track looks like it would have been a blast to drive on!
