F100 2017 Important Safety and Tech Reminders

Here are a few important reminders for the 2017 season:

1) Driver's age ranges for classes are as follows; Cadet is 8 to 12, Junior is 12 to 15, Senior is 15+, Masters is 30+ or drivers over 200 lbs and Grand Masters is 50+.*(PLEASE SEE NOTE BELOW)
2)
Driver's age is determined by the driver's actual age on December 31st, 2017.*

3) Double nutting weight/ballast bolts is legal. Safety wire and one single locknut is also allowed. PLEASE SEE BELOW for more information on ballast.
4) Helmet mounted cameras are NOT ALLOWED in 2017 for safety reasons (our insurance does not allow it). Please mount your on-board camera somewhere on your kart, such as the front fairing.

NOTE* This age rule means that if the driver turns 13 in 2017 they are too old to race in any FC class. If a driver turns 16 in 2017 they are too old to race in any FJ class. If a driver turns 30 in 2017 they are eligible to race in the Masters class. Please note, that F100 has some flexibility depending on the circumstances and situation, but these are general rules that will apply in most situations. For those wishing to move up or stay in a class, waivers are possible but not guaranteed. Please contact F100 for more information.

F100 would like to remind racers of the requirements for mounting weight/ballast onto your kart:

All weights must be white (painted, coated or white tape). They must be securely fastened to the kart with at least one lock nut and lock-wire/cotter or they can be secured using two lock nuts. All weight ballast over 7 lbs. must be secured to the kart with 2 (two) bolts.  The bolts must be 5/16" or larger. (8mm bolts are legal.)  All bolts must have either cotter pins, safety wire or use two locknuts to secure the weight to the chassis.

F100 would also like to remind parents to please bring proper documents for their minor racer, including proof of age to the first race of the season that the minor racer participates in.

For racers choosing to utilize the Spec Pump Gas option, please purchase your fuel the morning of the race from the appropriate spec gas station for the track:

F100 TaG Masters Class Survey and F206 LO206 Tire Survey

Thank you for all your responses to our surveys. We greatly appreciate your feedback. Your input is helping to shape our rules for the 2017 season.

F100 is improving our class structure for 2017. We are taking away some of our less populated classes (i.e. FK125 Senior, FK125 Masters, FJ2, FC2), and adding classes that racers have requested (e.g. FK1 Grand Masters, which will run on track and intermixed with FK1 Masters but will have separate trophies and a separate points championship).

To go along with the few changes we are making to improve our class structure, F100 would like to gather input on adding the following class to our class roster:

FK125 TaG Masters Survey (for ages 30+)
This class will potentially replace our FK125 classes from 2016, which were not well attended. We wish to provide a place for racers who are using restricted 125cc engines in our Level 2 classes to move up to, and for racers who have decided to purchase a TaG engine to race with F100. Please see the survey below for more information and to show your interest:

F206 LO206 Tire Survey
F206 is also gathering input on our 2017 tire rule for the LO206 Senior class. With tire rules taking shape locally for the LO206 classes with other organizations, F100 would like to get feedback from F206 racers in regards to the F206 spec tire rule:

Thank you for your participation!

Formula 100, Formula 206 and SKC - 2016 Season Recap and End of Year Survey

The fifth season of The Formula 100 Karting Series and our flagship travel series, F100 SoCal, has come to a close. F100 would like to thank all of our loyal racers for their participation and their support! F100 hosted 145 unique racers during the 2016 season, more than in any of our four previous seasons, and we consistently fielded grids of 20 or more racers in our FK2 Senior, FK1 Senior and FK1 Masters classes.

In fact, our FK2 Senior class, which often serves as a first step into the sport for many racers, hosted 49 unique racers in 2016! And not only does F100 continue to bring new racers into the sport, but we also host some of the most competitive racing on the West Coast! Our FK1 Senior class, our most competitive Senior aged class, hosted 37 unique racers, many of whom are regular podium contenders at some of the biggest races in the US! We are very proud of the continued growth and development of our racers and our series! Year after year we continue to host some of the most competitive, most accessible and most affordable racing anywhere!

In order to help put the finishing touches on our plans for 2017, F100 has created a few surveys. Both surveys are relatively short and should only take a few minutes to complete. Your participation and your answers to these surveys are very valuable to F100, and we hope that you will take part. Please see below for links to the specific surveys:

The fifth season of The Formula 100 Karting Series has come to an end, and what a great season it was! F100 SoCal Round #8, held on Sunday, November 27th, at Grange Motor Circuit, was the first rain race F100 has ever hosted, and the weather, although challenging, provided the ingredients for a fun-filled day of F100 competition and proved to be a great ending to another excellent season!

F100 Driver Profile: Randy Sturgeon

Randy is one of the elder statesman of F100, and has been racing with F100 for several years. Randy races in the highly competitive FK1 Masters class, which is a class for racers aged 30 years and older. Despite the difference in age between Randy and some of the other competitors, Randy is always at the front of the pack, battling for the lead, no matter which track F100 travels to. Randy has proven himself to be a fast, clean and respectful racing driver, capable of winning anytime he hits the track. There have been rumors of an FK1 Grand Masters class in F100 next year, for drivers aged 50 years and older. If this rumor is true, Randy will have 2 great classes to choose from in 2017, FK1 Masters and FK1 Grand Masters, and he is sure to be in the hunt for victories and the overall points championship in whichever class he chooses to compete in.

F100 San Diego Fun Race is SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th

F100 drivers have been invited to join the San Diego Karting Association for their club race on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th. This is a great opportunity to race at a new facility that many have never been to, to have fun and to continue to spread the word about F100! While this will be a non-points race, there has been a good amount of interest already and we expect a strong turnout of F100 racers for this event.

The cost for race entry is $70 and all registrations will be handled on-site. Gates open at 7am and drivers meeting is at 8:45am.

F100 plans to run 2 Senior classes at the event, FK2 and FK2 Clubman. FK2 Clubman will be a new class for 2017 but will debut at the San Diego race. FK2 Clubman is basically FK2 but with a points championship and a spec tire(although the San Diego race is not for points). The Maxxis SLR is the spec tire for FK2 Clubman, and no other tire will be allowed in the FK2 Clubman class. If you do not have Maxxis SLR tires, the FK2 class is the spot for you as it will still utilize the Approved Open Tire Rule that has always been used in the FK2 class.

After hearing from many racers, we feel that the FK2 Clubman class is a great addition to the F100 class roster and a great place for racers to compete for points before ascending to a Level 1 class, should they desire to do so.

NOTE: F100 SoCal FK1 Senior racers will either need to borrow or otherwise procure a 3 pipe or add weight to their kart to meet the class rules for FK2 or FK2 Clubman at this event.

If racers from any other F100 affiliated class are interested, please contact us. This includes shifter, LO206, Juniors and Cadets. We have room and would love for you to join us as well!

Directions to the track are at the following link:

If you have any questions please send us an email, formula100kartingseries@gmail.com.

We hope to see you in San Diego on September 11th!
