Need Help Deciding Which F100 Class Is For You? Classing Is As Easy As 1-2-3! A Thorough Explanation of F100 Class Names

Classing is as easy as 1 – 2 – 3

1.     F100 offers several types of classes. Some class names are self-explanatory, such as LO206 Senior, while others, such as the Formula, or “F” designated classes, are not as self-explanatory. The “F” designated classes represent the traditional F100 classes.  These classes combine different engine packages into one equal and competitive racing class. Due to their use of many different engine packages in one equal and competitive class, the standard spec class naming strategy of utilizing the engine name to designate the class was not appropriate and the “F” designation was created as way to label and designate these classes. The engine packages utilized in these classes depends on the age group, but as an example FK1 Masters combines KPV3, KPV4, Formula Y and KT100 pipe into one class. Please see the class structure for specific information about individual classes.

2.     In the “F” designated classes, the second letter is the age indicator. C is for Cadet, ages 8 to 12. J is for Junior, ages 11 to 15. K is for Senior, reminiscent of the old Formula K 135cc class. Senior classes are for ages 15+. Within the K classes there are also Masters classes, which are for ages 30+ or drivers 15+ who weigh over 200 lbs with their racing gear on race day, and Grand Masters classes, which are for ages 50+. Other classes, such as the LO206 classes, have age designated by the group name attached, e.g. LO206 Senior.

3.     The first number represents the license level, Level 1 or Level 2. Level 2 classes are for less experienced racers or racers who just want to have fun without ascending to a Level 1 class. Level 2 licenses are automatically awarded. Level 2 classes are designed to be as inclusive as possible, while still providing equal competition for all racers. Level 1 classes are for more experienced racers who wish to race with top-level competition. Level 1 classes provide some of the best competition anywhere!

Top Level Shifter Kart Racers Test Old School 100cc Direct Drive Power, AND LOVE IT!

Check out this story from Kart360 that discusses the test drive of a mid 1990's Formula A 100cc kart by factory KZ shifter kart racers Jordon Lennox-Lamb, who swept the SKUSA S1 Pro-Tour and won at Supernats this year, and Gary Carlton, who is widely believed to be one of the best, if not the best, kart racers from the United States.  This is a great story, and it really shows the feelings and emotion that the purity of direct drive karting brings out in racers!  My favorite quote is from Gary Carlton, who is a factory racer for TB Kart in Europe:

"It was like nothing I have driven before. The first time I pulled the engine the whole straight was something I will never forget. The sound of the engine revving towards 20,000 RPM gives you goosebumps the first time. It felt so pure. The chassis was so light and quick to respond. A whole different driving style where you can really throw the kart around. It was a great experience and I now can say I know what it was like back in the day, and I will say, they had it way better than we do now."

F100 2015 Tech Update and Reminder

Racer,

Due to a last minute change in insurance requirements, there have been a few updates to the F100 Rule Supplement:

1) Driver's age ranges for classes are now as follows. Cadet is 8 to 12. Junior is 12 to 15. Senior is 15+. Masters is 30+ or drivers over 200 lbs.*

2) Double nutting weight/ballast bolts is legal. However, please see below for more information on ballast.
3) Helmet mounted cameras are allowed, provided they do not compromise the safety of the helmet.
4) Driver's age is determined by the driver's actual age on December 31st, 2015.*

* This age rule means that if the driver turns 13 in 2015 they are too old to race in any FC class. If a driver turns 16 in 2015 they are too old to race in any FJ class. If a driver turns 30 in 2015 they are eligible to race in the Masters class. Please note, that F100 has some flexibility depending on the circumstances and situation, but these are general rules that will apply in most situations.
For those wishing to move up or stay in a class waivers are possible but not guaranteed. Please contact F100 for more information.

F100 would like to remind racers of the new requirements for mounting weight/ballast onto your kart:

All weights must be white (painted, coated or white tape). They must be securely fastened to the kart with at least one lock nut and lock-wire/cotter or they can be secured using two lock nuts. All weight ballast over 7 lbs. must be secured to the kart with 2 (two) bolts.  The bolts must be 5/16" or larger. (8mm bolts are legal.)  All bolts must have either cotter pins, safety wire or use two locknuts to secure the weight to the chassis.

F100 would also like to remind parents to please bring proper documents for their minor racer, including proof of age to the first race of the season that the minor racer participates in.

For racers choosing to utilize the Spec Pump Gas option, please purchase your fuel the morning of the race from the appropriate spec gas station for the Calspeed track:
